Papers, 1929-1940.

This collection contains miscellaneous articles and notes in typescript pertaining to Maine history, primarily Boothbay Harbor and the Pemaquid area. They were written or compiled by Reed during the period 1929 to 1940 (most are undated) apparently for the purpose of writing a history of the area. Included is information copied from newspapers, books, and archives on Boothbay Harbor legends, letters written by residents during the Revolution, War of 1812, and Civil War, lists of soldiers from the area who served during those wars and official records pertaining to them, notes on the town meeting of 1778, and genealogical studies of the Beath, Fullerton, Cowden, and Sawyer families. Reed copied the diary of Jeremiah Person ( - ), of Essex County, of Massachusetts Bay, written during his expedition to Quebec in 1749, and the Franklin Forensic Association's (Boothbay Harbor) Constitution and By-Laws of 1846. She also wrote several articles, probably for publication, including "The Rebel Cruiser _Shenandoah_ and the Ships which She Sank," "Notes on the Anti-Slavery Movement in Maine," and "Rev. Robert Blair ( -1848), Quaker Preacher and Teacher of Falmouth, Maine."
